Our department has both the old style (with the color border) and the new style without the border. The new style (that does not have the border) sticks better to the curve of the helmet where the bordered always had ridges/ bubbles on the edges that never really could stick. We have not found any issues with the durability of either. Slight annoyance with the little ridges of the old style but the adhesive is holding everything on very well and we have not had any bit come off after a solid year of use and washing.
